Today major Network Management platforms can only manage the newestequipment-- those within SNMP agent. Legacy systems such as X.25 or SNAnetworks, multiplexers, modems or PABX require network management bridgesor proxy agents.This is a long, difficult, and costly work. To date, only large companieswere able to afford it.Enter Bridgeway's Extensible Proxy Agent Builder. The EPA is a costeffective, user-friendly integrated environment to build and run SNMPproxy agents.All the steps and tasks necessary to build a proxy agent are automated.The user interface with the equipment is easily made through theAsync/AsCII, X.25, SNA, UNIX & System (using Telnet) EventIX modules.Message filtering and actions are set up entirely with X-Window menus.Processes are defined with explicit event-driven rules.The Graphical MIB Builder enables an easy MIB definition for theequipment. The Motif interface frees you from the complex ASN.1 syntax.The Generic Message Processor module processes all messages coming fromthe source according to specific rules defined through X-Window menus.This includes additional filtering criteria depending on equipmentstatus, MIB Cache updates, issuing Traps and logging.The SNMP Request Processor module automatically processes SNMP managerrequests. It validates Get and GetNext commands, looks up values in theMIB Cache and triggers the associated scenarios.MapBuilder builds automatically legacy equipment maps within the SNMPmanager thus enabling detailed icons monitoring.All Proxy Agent modules are monitored by a small EventIX applicationwhich automates proxy agent startup, run, and shut down.The Extensible Proxy Agent of EventIX is a natural extension toNetView/6, HP OpenView and SunNet Manager(TM). EPA runs on IBM AIX,HP9 series700 and 800, Sun(TM) SunOS(TM) and Solaris(R) and NCR.
